EAW’S MICROSUB JOINS the MicroWedge12 and
Micro Wedge15 to complement the MicroWedge Series
of stage monitor products. A single 15-inch enclosure,
the MicroSub is a high-volume stage and small venue subwoofer, designed to address onstage low-frequency demands,
a frequency range often ignored by stage monitor setups. As
with all products in the Micro Wedge Series, the MicroSub was
co-designed by Dave Rat of Rat Sound Systems Inc. An agreement was signed that sees EAW exclusively manufacture and
distribute the line.
The MicroSub stands 13 inches tall, which is the same height
as the MW12. Its frequency range 27-150 Hz, and is tuned at
35 Hz. It features external DSP with band-pass filter. Axial SPL
Sensitivity is 92 dB (LF – whole space) or 98 dB (half space) at
27-150 Hz. Nominal input impedance is 8 ohms low frequency,
with minimum input impedance of 7. 6 ohms at 165 Hz. Its high-pass filter is a 12 dB/octave Butterworth filter at 28 Hz. The
MicroSub has a calculated SPL axial output limit of 122 dB aver-
age/128 dB peak (LF – whole space) or 128 dB average/134 dB
peak (half space).
With small pads and recesses on its sides, top and bottom,
the MicroSub can interlock in a variety of configurations, by
itself, or with other MicroSubs and with MW12 and MW15 units.
The MicroSub is mounted at a 45-degree angle, while the cabinet height is exactly half of the cabinet width when it is laid flat.
The metal grille can withstand musician abuse, maintaining its shape.
EAW’s
MicroSub,
with its pads and
recesses, which allow
for a variety of interlocking
configurations.
With its small profile, it can be used as a sidefill monitor, and
its 13-inch height allows it to be used as a building block to
achieve optimum stage height for the top cabinets. It can fit
in the monitor wedge line downstage for a lead vocalist, bass
player, keyboard or other musicians, although it is particularly
ideal for drummers.
The MicroSub will be available in standard black, matching
the other units in the Micro Wedge Series. Built with Baltic Birch,
the cabinets are treated with EAW’s proprietary RoadCoat finish, which is resistant to dings and scratches. The steel grille
maintains its shape, even when stood on by performers. All the
MicroSub’s transducer components are liquid tolerant, making
them virtually impervious to spilled drinks or natural elements.
The MicroSub will be available in August 2009. For more information, visit www.eaw.com.
The low profile
of the Micro-
Sub allows it
